I know you all remember Creature Double Feature. That show got me through many a rainy Saturday afternoon. I would plunk myself down on the couch and get ready to watch Godzilla stomp all over Tokyo, Gamera spinning across the sky (always one of my favorites) or The Creature from the Black Lagoon carry the girl away. There was one episode that I could never remember the name. The only thing I did remember was one scene. Which was this:

It is a black and white movie. The setting is a laboratory of some sort. There is a scientist in his lab coat. Oh yeah and there is a woman’s severed head on a table. It is hooked up to laboratory type stuff and it is alive! Alive I say!!!! What I remember most is the science guy gets his arm ripped off and he then staggers up a set of stairs at the back. He leaves streaks of gore along the wall as he makes his way out the door. That is all I had to go on, could remember anything else about the movie.

Well thanks to the Internet and especially IMDB I have my answer. I was just kicking around the site and came across this little gem. I look at what the movie really is, just a comedic redub of a movie called The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. I was intrigued, the movie I was trying to find the name of had a head on a table that was still alive, so could this be the answer? I clicked and read the synopsis. I was convinced this was the movie; it had all the right elements. Mad scientist? Check! Decapitated woman? Check! It even had a monster in a closet, which could definitely lead to the ripping off of and arm or two. I added it to my Netflix queue and bumped it to the top of the list.

I watched it over the weekend and let me tell you it was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. Don’t get me wrong it is a terrible, terrible movie. The acting is awful, the special effects are silly (granted it is 1962), the plot is goofy and did I mention the terrible acting? God damn is this movie funny! It is one of those true gems of bad movies that are unintentionally a laugh riot. I was rolling, just killing myself laughing. It has all the things I mentioned before, severed head, mad scientist, and monster ripping off limbs. It also has a stripper catfight (complete with meow sound effect!), a swimsuit competition (with plenty of lascivious leering), a Bettie Page like model (with a scar!) and sexual innuendo to beat the band!

That one scene that I remembered comes towards the end of the movie. I have to say that I found that it was surprisingly gory (at least by what I thought would 1962 standards). Granted it is in black and white so maybe they can show more because it isn’t bright red blood squirting everywhere. There was another scene that involved biting which I also thought was a little bloody for the times (guess not). How times have changed. Just take a look at Hostel.

Overall this movie was entertaining in it’s awfulness. I wish more movies could be like this one.

Peace out.

What up Natalie?

This is from SNL the other night. Not as good as the Narnia clip but it has moments. Somehow Natalie Portman is even more hoty hotness.
Damn!!
